What is Mobile 2.0?

by Jayvee on September 3rd, 2006

About a year ago, Pete posted something about the way the Mobile 2.0 concept wil serve as a universal conduit for all our data, which will be stored in a democracy of available web services be it a .Mac account, Flickr, YouTube, Plaxo, Parazz, and the like.

Though I agree with this, the pickup for Mobile 2.0 will definitely be much slower than how Web 2.0 picked up due to the following things:

1. Web 2.0 was driven by a passionate open source community while Mobile 2.0 is hindered by corporate bottom lines

2. Limitations of mobile service networks on a local scale to implement services.

3. Most importantly, the mobile phone industry is features-centric rather than service-oriented. This means that companies are concentrating more on making their operating systems faster and more stable and their hardware thinner, more durable and lighter.

Do you agree?
