unplugged

by Jayvee on December 17th, 2005

My Friday was crap day when I found out my iBook’s logic board went bonkers. I went to our local Apple store, turned my ‘book into a target drive and backed up 5GB worth of data (in total there was about 30GB of data but I had a dinner to attend and I was late; plus the store was about to close so I had to hurry!).

In the midst of backing up I got a message from a friend asking if I wanted to catch the last show of whatever movie. SHe was doing some overtime at work and wanted to start the weekend with a movie. King Kong was impossible because of the crowds and I really didn’t feel like watching a big ape total the city. So we agreed on In Her Shoes. I replied with a “sure, I’ll fetch you after my dinner” and everything was fine until she replied “what time?” and then my phone died. It ran out of juice.

I didn’t know her number in the office and I was already resigned to the task of running all 50++ floors to find her (actually I could have just asked the reception in her building - lucky if the guy was still there - but the point was, I left my friend hanging with no concrete time).

Long story short, I proceeded to my short dinner and scavenged for someone with a phone exactly like mine. I swapped batteries and was able to make the call. I figured the chances that someone would have a k700i would be greater than me running around 50++ floors. It was also less tiring.

I’m definitely a hard-head whenit comes to these things, so I decided to list down some pragmatic ways to keep your phone alive for a little bit longer in hopes that I may also follow my own advice.

Leave a spare charger or battery in the office

Know where those phone charging stations are located
I’m not sure if you have these where you’re from but in various location in the metro, we got them phone charging stations for over 5 brands of phones including Sony Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung.

Make it a habit to plug in your phone in the charger before you go to sleep.

If you own a PDA-phone, turn on flight mode so that people don’t call you when you’re low on battery

Though it might be negligeable, turn off Bluetooth

Lower your screen brightness if able

So, what’s your story?
