Treo 700w launched: The case of the Mondays
You get a funny feeling down in your stomach when Palm launches the new Treo and the press says that Palm was dealt a huge blow, conceding the handheld platform war to Windows Mobile. You know something went wrong in spite of the successful launch when you get comments like:
“It’s about growth and about taking this whole category to the next level,” he said. “We think that this operating system offers some functionality that the Palm operating system doesn’t necessarily have. Certainly it does some things better.”
and
Palm has been stuck with this ancient operating system,” said Todd Kort, principle analyst with Gartner. “They had no choice but to modernize.”
There is truth to this though — Cobalt could never be completed, so instead they used Windows Mobile, which offers “more or less” the same functionality. Time to let go of the biases boys and girls. If you love your Palm, stick with it, but hell has just frozen over.
