Small arms: The VK 2000

Early last year, Panasonic released the smallest phone in the world, known to Asians as the GD55. It was so small (and cute!) that I had to grow my fingernails to press accurately on the buttons. It was compensated by a really loud ringer so you could easily find it amongst the dense foliage of your daily clothing. I also remember losing it because it was just a tad longer than a AA battery and weighed 65 grams. I plopped it into my pocket and gee, never saw it again!

Now, VK (from Korea) has released an even smaller and lighter phone called the VK2000 weighing only 48 grams and has the perimiter of a calling card. At 48 grams — that’s around as light as a pencil. I’m beginning to wonder what sort of business model theory these Koreans try to follow … “if we make our phones smaller, it will make phone owners feel more mighty!” I’m lost.
The company plans to market the black, bar-type model that gives off a compact metal feel and is sized as long and wide as a business card at 4.99 centimeters by 8.99 centimeters in China later this month at about $100.
