Skype for BlackBerry: Deactivating Voice Calls One Plan at a Time

by Jayvee on May 10th, 2007

What is lacking with the BlackBerry? Skype calls of course! Being an all-enterprise device, a BlackBerry equipped with a conduit that allows you to make calls is definitely a welcome addition to your Blackberry phone software. The Skype service for BlackBerry costs $24 for one year allowing you to make calls via 3G and HSDPA as well as chat with your Skype IMs.

If you have a very good data plan with your carrier, you can technically cancel your voice calls and just call everyone via data. Of course, that’s a rather dumb idea in practice, but who knows what the future holds!

I think calling everyone via data becomes a smart idea once wireless connectivity becomes faster and more reliable.

There’s another interesting service RIM just launched; I like to call it “push-calling.”
