Samsung U700: Where’s the screen?

Here’s a pretty little number. The Samsung U700 is an HSDPA capable phone that balances features with aesthetics. I mean look at that beauty! The phone claims a slider design with the front, I assume, camouflaging the screen. The simplicity in its design is amazing, almost looking like a butterfly cocoon. The U700 comes with dual cameras, with the main camera at the back allowing you to go up to 3.2MP.
The phone supports microSD expansion up to 2GB but the phone itself only claims 20MB of internal memory which is rather small to accommodate the high resolution camera. Bluetooth and USB connectivity are also included.

Luv, Luv, Luv It! Just bought one today and (being a Samsung girl since the diamonte, champagne coloured flip!) it has come through again. Just broke my D900 and this one kicks it for the elegant, diamond loving techette! Menu functions are easy, net is quicker than my ADSL 2 at home/office, who needs an independant digital camera anymore?, and wow…finally an elegant looking, slimline feminine phone on the market again!…also…has mirror finish for topping up the lippy!! TOO CLEVER!! Congrats Samsung, 10+ points. Couldnt be more functionally suave!

I just got mine 3 days ago. All in all it’s a great phone. The interface is as per Samsung style easy to work with and looks great. The camera quality is better than I expected.
Something that troubles me tremendously though is that I can’t run java in the background - and this phones java API doesn’t have calls to chat over bluetooth. This means no GPS over bluetooth… In fact, it seems the java apps are even more limited here than on my old D500. Pity, and a shocker.
Still, I’m sure I’ll be very happy with it.

my brother recieved this phone for his birthday and was amazed. we have both been exploring it and trying stuff out and we’ve come to a conclusion that the touch keys next to the scrolley thing are a pain…. and the key volume buttons are way too low down on the phone.
it just doesnt work in your hand
but the main reason to complain is that, the phone doesn’t come with USB conectivity for Mac’s, same as my phone, the samsung E330.
which means, no music on the phone, no photos from the phone to the computer, and many other functions i don’t even know about.
thank you for reading
please help

This message is an update to the one I posted in August.
I am thoroughly disappointed with Samsung. Aside from the instability with the Internet the workmanship is far below standard. After a month the silver on the phone started chipping off. Actually, chipping is the wrong word. It just comes off. The phone is doesn’t have a scratch on it yet the white of the plastic comes through clearly near the screen.
Samsung couldn’t care to comment when I sent them emails. I believe my relationship with Samsung has now come to an end. I would’ve been more positive if Samsung at least acknowledged my existence.
Gabriel, as for your problem. I am able to use my Samsung with Gentoo Linux without too much hassle so I suspect there must be a way for you to use it on the MAC. Mine mounts like a normal flash drive and I can transfer photos and music without hassle.
Do your brother a favour and get the phone a cover. I don’t think it’ll last long if you subject it to any form of the environment.
Regards

it’s just not compatible, according to the guys in the phone shop. shame about the silver, it really looks like the best bit.
we’ve decided we’re going to change it for a Sony Ericsson K750i, its easy to use and its got a great camera, and it works with mac, no problems.
thanks for replying so soon =)

Hi!
I have a U700, and Gentoo, but can’t use it as a flash pen. How did you set up your U700?
Cheers,

Well.. it’s a great phone in the first month.. then you just realize how slow it actually is. I bought one 9 months ago.. ok it’s not new by now, but, ever since the 3rd or 4th month the screen started flickering. went from bad to worse today, as i can’t even read messages. I’m just actually returning it for warranty next weekend, but still got really disappointed. The chrome paint started coming off from the 2nd month. the battery has a poor performance, compared to the expectancy of over 170hours firstly announced…. perhaps 170 if you just don’t touch the phone it doesn’t ring once and is in offline.. ?? (grin) .. Still it’s like a beautiful package with nothing much inside.. camera is slow, the flash is well.. just is.. the menus tend to be slower than your fingers.. what tha heck.. aside the looks on first impressions, the phone sucks.
