Prudence versus the custom ring tones
There are some telcos that offer a pretty useless but fun ringtone service where instead of the caller hearing a ringing tone, he or she hears something more customized whether it be a voice recording saying “You have reached Mr _____’s personal secretary. Please hold on” or the latest tunes from Britney Spears.
So what’s wrong with this? If you were a young college dude subject to the world’s frivolities then it’s perfectly fine for you to have these custom tones which people will hear when they call you.
But what happens when you get to the corporate world? I may understand the context of these tones if you were part of a creative or advertising agency. But if you are a n “uptight” bank executive, it may notbe the most prudent thing.
A friend of mine was recently reprimanded by his boss for the usual “you should have done it this way instead of that way” blunder. What made things a bit worse was when the boss gave a follow up call to give him the dessert reprimand following the main course that happened while they were talking in person.
Lo and behold when the boss rang his phone, he was greeted by the latest sexy tune from Madonna’s Confessions from the Dance Floor album.
At this point the human emotion will do one of two things - freak out even more because of the seemingly frivolous behavior of my friend in the way he carries himself. Or laugh out loud.
The boss did the latter. The day is saved, thanks to Madonna.
