Phone AM Tuner?
The recent political turmoil in the Philippines had three separate rallies in the main central business district, the military arresting key persona of the alleged attempt to unseat the president, as well as the takeover of several newspapers.
But for most working citizens of Manila, they were too busy in their skyscraper offices and oblivious to the rallies in the streets. No TV, no private radio to give them an up to date account of what was happening down there.
We relied on off topic forum discussions and the broadsheet’s web-based account. Damn. it was times like these where we wished our mobile phones had an AM tuner.
Sometime last year, we asked Nokia’s dashing country general manager PB Bhasin if we will ever see a Nokia phone with an AM radio, and he replied that AM radio is primarily a Philippine phenomenon, and so we can’t expect to see regionally-targeted phones to carry these.
Here in the Philippines, FM stations represent the “Americanized” mass media that is highly concentrated on music and commercial tours. Our AM stations are your “podcasts” where we have running accounts of daily news, commentaries, radio plays and the like.
AM radio, where are you?

You know how bad I want this feature on a cellphone, if one comes out I would get it no matter what brand it is, I love to have the first AM tuner phone EVER.

I asked the same question to many telecom guys about AMs absence in phones MP3 players etc But no one ever thought about it or some argued that these products are targeted towards youth and they wont listen to AM even if you paid em!
