It’s attention back to the S60 developers who are currently running an online video contest! It’s been all about the apps lately as the group wants you to show off your best S60 Tips or do a show and tell of your favorite S60 app (mine is still PaNoMan). It’s crazy creativity that will be the judge - as well as the YouTube community who will rate your videos! The contest closes on the 20th of May leaving us with 12 days for submissions.

HTC, formerly just another one of those OEM’s have gone a long way. After releasing such devices as the HTC Touch a mere hours before the iPhone, HTC is back with a new winner - the HTC Diamond.
From a technical perspective, the HTC Diamond offers an ultra bright high definition glass touch screen and a fluid user interface. Yes, it looks like the dawn of the iPhone competitors has reached its peak ladies and gentlemen. The smartphone is meant first and foremost for browsing the Internet and HTC did a good job of overlaying their own UI platform above Windows Mobile. This is a similar “hack” which they did with the Touch and since I’ve played with one, I am confident that HTC will make UI navigation much simpler and less “corporatey” with the traditional Windows Start screen.
In a nutshell: the HTC Diamond combines several great technologies to come up with one kick ass product. High definition screen, 3.2MP camera, WiFi, click wheel navigation ala iPod and “deck o’ cards” form factor are all in. The only con? Well it doesn’t seem to run on Google’s Android platform yet.

It’s been talked about how Rogers is going to be carrying the iPhone in Canada. If I were Rogers - or any telco for that matter competing against everyone else this year, I’d debut the iPhone not as a product in itself - but as an incentive to a new type of service that is friendly to consumers who consume heavy amounts of data.
Launching the iPhone as an “exclusive” item on your rack of mobile phone bundles doesn’t make you remarkable as a telco. Sure, you do get the subscribers signing up for the service, but there’s no revenue after that - a good number of these sign ups prolly would have hacked their iPhones.
Staking the claim to the “second coming of Jesus” or the 3G iPhone which is supposedly due in the next 90 days, telcos should concentrate more on launching excellent consumer plans for data using the iPhone as a springboard. Knock on wood, the iPhone may not always be the next big thing. But yet — in this moment that it is, the “Jesus Phone” will definitely be a springboard as well for mainstream consumers to start using their phones for data, more than calls or SMS.
So yes, have a good, solid, data plan that can’t be matched. That way, there will never be the temptation to switch to another telco provider because it all boils down to excellent service - and being the first.

Went on a provincial tour over the weekend and one of the guys on board was toting the 6500 slide phone. According to him this was out late May of 2008. Some sites have labeled this particular model as an Nseries phone, calling it the N6500 - but it isn’t as it’s using the new Series 40 platform. The 6500 slide comes with a 3.2MP camera (the Nokia site claims a 2MP camera but this one has 3.2MP — I’ll honestly have to confirm this) and a revamped user interface. As you can see from the photos, the menu screen is now located at the bottom of the LCD screen. They also changed some parts of the menu like the SMS screen, but for the most part - is really aesthetic.

Several weeks ago, Nokia sent out a public service announcement on chargers. By unplugging your charger when your phone is fully charged, you save on electricity - lots of it. Nokia has gone the extra mile by revealing new phone concepts.
The Zero Waste Charger is an example of this. What does it do? Well, simply put, this phone tells the charger that it is fully charged and the charger will in turn stop pumping in electricity even if it is plugged in. Good move - shouldn’t something like this have been invented long ago? It seems that the green campaign is slowly rooting into society, first with our hybrid cars and now with everyday technology.
