Nokia phones “Comes with Music” - tells Apple off
Winners come and go. And if you’ve been following the recent trend in the technology industry Apple has been taking a beating with the latest release of Microsoft’s new “I’m a PC” ads + complaints from developers and consumers on the iPhone 3G’s performance. Today, Nokia is pulling into the fray to join the battle for music dominance and yes, they do pose a serious threat to Apple as the Finnish company champions independent music (the Nokia IAC) and free downloads. I heard about their Comes with Music campaign at a Nokia dinner a few weeks back and they might actually be the ones to overtake Apple in the subscription based model for music downloads (I think it is free for the first year).

“‘Comes with Music’ could potentially bring free music to millions of consumers, radically changing the music industry, and offering a significant threat to Apple’s dominance,” Strategy Analytics’ David MacQueen said in a research report.
“In a market where price and selection are so much more important than brand to consumers, Apple cannot count on retaining users when competing with an offering which seems free to the end user,” MacQueen said.[Reuters report]
