Nokia E61
I had a chance to play with the E61 (to be released sometime in March), which is Nokia’s mobile email solution PDA-phone. Actually, they could have just said that it’s their ace to beat the Blackberry, but they didn’t. Even if the form factor and weight all lead consumers to believe that this could very well be another Blackberry device.
I had 2 minutes to play with it. First off, I noticed that the scroll wheel on the side was absent, contrary to how Blackberries are usually designed. Instead were a set of buttons which I assumed were to be used to scroll through the menu.
The E61 is a Blackberry and more. It can edit and view MS Office documents and is capable of WLAN. So this neat little package packs a lot in its innards with 75MB of useful storage space and removes the useless frivolities like a built-in camera. It’s got a miniSD slot for expansion options.
This might be the phone for me. My only qualm is the iffyness of the new ActiveSync conduit when it comes to synching data to my main computer.

4 opinions for Nokia E61

I’ve been using the E61 as my phone for about a week now and surprisingly love it. I have no experience with Blackberries, so I can’t compare it to them, but from what I’ve experience, Nokia has done an excellent job.
It’s so thin, it just slides right in and out of your pocket, even if you’re wearing tight jeans like me. The screen is a big and beautiful and makes browsing the internet enjoyable. Although since the screen is one of the new S60 resolutions, I hope applications take full advantage of it.
I’m a former Nokia Communicator user, so being able to type on a QWERTY keyboard with just one hand is a huge plus for me. All this device needs a camera and it’d be perfect. But I’m still deciding if I’d rather have the E70 instead.
