My favorite phones of 2005

by Jayvee on December 31st, 2005

These are the phones of 2005 that you can buy today that will age very gracefully into 2006.

Nokia N90. Definitely a winner for 2005 because of its amazing video recording capabilities. Let’s forget about the Carl Zeiss still lens and concentrate more on the high quality videos this baby can churn out. Now anyone with this phone can make their own home videos.

Sony Ericsson W800i. The dawn of the Walkman is up for its second sunrise. Modelled after the k750i, the W800i is nothing more than a great marketing hype. Am I making this sound bad? My apologies then - for the package includes a 512MB memory stick and In-Ear earphones. Once you buy this phone, you’re all set for the best mobile musical experience to date.

Palm Treo 650. Definitely an anticipated best of 2005, taking 2004’s winner, the Treo 600 to new heights. I must stress that what makes the 650 such an amazing piece of moderen day David is its seamless integration of phone functions with PDA capabilities. Phone and PDA are truly in-sync. And mind you, it has nothing to do with the Palm OS software. It’s all in the hardware integration. The biggest improvements of the 650 from the previous model are the added Bluetooth connectivity as well as the hi-resolution screen. I don’t really care much for the camera.

O2 XDA II mini. Finally, a PDA-phone that goes well in the hands of the opposite sex. A lot of women used to complain that handheld phones were so bulky. Well, complain no more! The XDA II mini as it is more popularly known paved the way for productivity and aesthetics combined. The camera sucks though - but then again that’s not the reason why you’re buying this specific unit.

Motorola RAZR. Damn, it looks pretty. If you’re a guy get the dark one. If you’re a girl get the hot pink one. Software-wise, nothing really great but the hardware is what’s gonna get you to own one. It’s so sleek and sexy, like me… not!

Samsung D500. Small, compact and daring - for a Samsung that is. Unlike many of the clamshell Samsung phones, the D500 sports a sliding mechanism that doesn’t compromise sturdiness. What also makes this phone a winner is that it ditches the old boring Samsung UI with something more Sony Ericsson-esque. The D500 is also able to send and receive media files via Bluetooth and IrDA, something that could not be done with the other Samsung phone models.
