Motorola W230 File Transfer Problems // Firmware Update

by Jayvee on April 17th, 2008

W230

Motorola’s “el cheapo” line of mobile phones is generating a lot of buzz with interested buyers. The W230 in particular is popular but has been reporting issues of not being able to do file transfer. Kiran from the community has a fix, which implies upgrading the firmware:

The problem with the fone is that file transfer is possible only when fully charged. I too had this problem. Here’s how to fix it:

Step 1: Install this file

Step 2: Charge the phone fully(the battery image should be green)

Step 3: Restart the Computer.

Step 4: Plug in fone and install the driver.

hi. i’ve just bought this phone and haven’t been charged straight out of the box. i’ve successfully transferred about 10 music files and some pictures to a new microSD card even when the phone already prompted a battery low signal. :) just a thought.

i’m interested though with the PC CHARGING DRIVER which allows you to charge your phone using your PC and a USB cable. haven’t tried this yet, though.

also, the unit i bought didn’t come with a usb cable bundled, just a headset free. what i did is use another brand’s usb cable, and it worked! :)

anyone had problems with the bundled headset? it plays super low you have to strain to hear it.. :( you have to stick the jack a little loose for it to increase in volume but then, i fear the possibility that it would come off loose at the slightest movement. thanks!

    Hi!

Thank you for the tip, but I was lucky enough not to need it.

Actually my Motorola works perfectly fine - until it starts changing the time by itself!!! It drives me mad, because I use it as an alarm clock, so… kakakaka

Does anyone know whay the time changes by itself? Thanks

Response to Eunice, check if you have the clock in online automatic update and turn it off. This can splve your problem.

I have W230 and have problem like as above opinion to. Now I don’t have problem about transfer file. Let me show how I can fix it.

    1. Use automatic driver not Install driver from Motorola(I don’t install driver for used w230 for storage device only but for charging via PC I used driver for Motorola)

    2.Turn Auto Key Lock off
Settings -> Security -> Auto key Lock -> off

    3.Used short data cable
I have 2 data cable , one is short and one is long.
When I used long data cable it show popup can connect to W230 just 2 -3 sec and show popup again for error and detail show it can’t connect to w230. But when I used short data cable it don’t have any problem. Two data cable can connect to any equipment like as digital camera and other

    Hi Guys,

Is there any existing free downloads for Motorola Phone Tools? I need this so that I could transfer files from my computer to my w230 phone and vice versa. I don’t have the MPT cd when I bought this phone. Please share a link.

    Thanks!

Matias, Regarding switching off automatic time update, the option is reached as follows: Tools -> Initial Setup -> Autoupdate. Set this last value to OFF.

hey guys, if u hav troubles transfering your files through usb cable, then just use your memory card adapter and insert it using a laptop, or you have card reader for your pc. it works very fine and faster!
