Motorola ROKR E6 this December

An exciting aesthetic awaits buyers who have been following Motorola’s line of music phones. The new ROKR E6 is a PDA-style phone that foregos the keypad in place of a full touch screen. Bad idea in my opinion, especially since the touch screen doesn’t add any breakthrough to the functions. You would expect this phone to have high speed data access in the form of 3G or WiFi but unfortunately, the E6 only comes with GPRS compatibility.

Sad news really, since the previous model, the ROKR E2 gave high hopes for future models of Motorola’s music phone which supposedly goes up against Sony’s Walkman line. I really do not understand how a touch screen device like this will add value to the phone when it is tons easier to input numbers using soft keys. Sony got it right with their P series (the P990i comes with a touch screen, a QWERTY thumb board AND a numerical keypad). Why can’t Motorola?

The E6 adds some office suite functionality in the form of document viewers and business card scanning but the absence of mobile Internet makes this a big dead end device. You can click on the full specs here.
