Mobile phones as ad real estate

by Jayvee on November 17th, 2005

The goal of mobile connectivity is sharing the love. The goal of advertising is spreading the love. So when you mesh the two together, you get a medium of ad real estate that’s a lot more flexible that billboards.

Advertising in mobile phones isn’t new, but in its infancy there are a lot of opportunities to explore. Wherever there’s content there’s always a space for ads. In the online world, content is always sought. The more content, the more pages can be built. The more pages you have, the more real estate there is for ads.

With mobile phones, advertisers don’t need the real estate. In fact, the only space they need is a few bytes in the subscriber’s phonebook memory. Another advantage of phone advertising is that media buyers can really target their market. It’s basically like sending out a blanket of ads to a whole demographic and getting feedback almost immediately. This is opposed to putting up an ad in the middle of a prime spot and assuming cost based on how many people see it. It works, though but times are changing.
