Macworld 2008 3G iPhone Update Leak (RUMOR)

by Jayvee on January 5th, 2008

3G iPhone and SDK for Macworld 2008

A lot of blogs and forums have posted about the leak in the Steve Jobs keynote for Macworld 2008. The details listed several new products including a MacTouch, upgraded MacBooks and the Mac nano. There are new iPhone updates as well. Here is the list:

iPhone
• SDK Available at MacWorld
• Developers can sell their signed apps from iTunes starting in March
• New software includes Multimedia messaging, video recording with the camera, and an eBook reader
• iPhone games available from the iTunes store
• 3G iPhone announced (looks similar to the existing model)
• iPhone available in more countries

The update doesn’t talk about the iPhone being unlocked though so we can only but speculate on whether we will be seeing exclusive iPhones in Asia this year. Why even bother with the locking, really. The iPhone will also be used as an eBook reader together with the MacTouch as the iTunes store will be selling eBooks as well, according to rumors.

Signed Apps! Oh no not that again. That in one fell swoop will kill any ability for lone developers to produce innovative apps. In favour of large development shops who will be the only ones able to afford the high costs of security certificates. Just like Java development has been killed on other smartphone platforms.
