Jumping the 3G network can be ugly
I was reading through an article written by a friend for PC Magazine Philippines and he talked about the way local infrastrucute vis-a-vis 3G implementation isn’t so great.
Based on the premise of how 3G and 3.5G (HSPDA) works, your phone autojumps from a 3G signal to GSM in the event that a 3G signal is lost. Now this is the normal practice of things and it really comes as no surprise.
To paraphrase, signals from a 3G service have to hit a very low USELESS level before switching to GSM. And it so happens that this switch is not very intelligent - 2G networks may not even realize that the 3G network is already down and the switch may take some time.
This results in lost messages, dropped calls, and a lot of frustration. I guess this explains the reason behind some of the anomalies us 3G users are experiencing all over the world.
