I Suck at Giving Advice Thanks to 3G

[DIGG] Has this ever happened to you? While waiting for a taxi, I’d usually pop open my IM on the BlackBerry. Here’s a conversation that ensued over a period of fifteen minutes with a friend, whom I shall aptly call Sheils25, who had the words *sob life is so hard!* on her IM status bar. Here it goes:

• Cellphoneguy: Hey what’s wrong?
• Sheila25: hey there are you home?
• Cellphoneguy: no im trying to get a cab. yargh.
• Sheila25: huh? so how come youre online?
• Cellphoneguy: blackberry yahoo messenger. ill explain when i get home.
• Cellphoneguy: so whats wrong…
• Sheila25: its this guy. you know the story. we were supposed to be together but then sh*t happened and now hes seeing someone else. so im just devastated and all that
• Cellphoneguy: oh yeah i remember him. i thought you ironed it all out…..
• Sheila25: MEN ARE PIGS!!!!
• Cellphoneguy: *oink*
• Sheila25: :P

(At this point I get an automated SMS from my service provider reminding me that I’ve gone more than 50% above my credit limit for my phone services. I had this warning issued to me so I can more less keep track of my bills. Not that I spend a lot on my phone bill, but the jump to using a BlackBerry has left me getting used to the significant increase in phone bills)

• Sheila25: anyhoo so there it really sucks. can i just vent?
• Cellphoneguy: sure….
• Sheila25: are you sure? you might be busy or something
• Cellphoneguy: yeah go ahead…
• Sheila25: argh i dont wanna be a burden to you. you dont have to take this in

(At this point I was starting to realize that this conversation would go in circles. First off she was really emotional and secondly, going around in circles would mean an increase in GPRS costs as the rate for data here is about 0.25 cents per KB sent or received. Urgh.)

• Cellphoneguy: dont worry. im all ears. just tell me whats wrong.
• Sheila25: ….
• Cellphoneguy: argh! cmon.. are you going to share this or not?
• Sheila25: are you really sure?

(At this point I had to make the most logical argument given my current state)

• Cellphoneguy: well its not that i wanna rush you but im being charged for every word we type here as im not on a computer. the longer you go around in circles the more i have to pay eventually. :P
• Sheila25 has signed out
