For developing nations!
According to a June ‘05 entry at Gizmodo, these two new phones from Nokia are set to debut in developing countries real soon. And guess what? I live in a developing country! Thus it was to no surprise that these two phones found their way into my hands real quick. Let me present the Nokia 1110 and 1160. The main difference is that the former has a monochrome screen while the latter sports a colored one.
These are supposed to be Nokia’s latest addition to their “uber entry level” phones, replacing the flashlight-enhanced 1100. So what’s great about these? Well, for all intents and purposes, both phones have exactly the same features save the 65k color screen, which the 1160 has compared to the inverted b&w screen of the 1110.
Two main features for both phones - make that three if you include the sub US$100.00 retail price. First, both phones assume you suffer from a severe case of keratokonus, making the display font size really huge. Second, the phone can tell you the time by speaking in a funny Asian voice, in case you don’t know how to read or write (which makes me wonder how you got the phone in the first place…).
