Motorola’s phone division is now a lone wolf

We’ve seen the mergers: BenQ-Siemens, Sony Ericsson, and even Symbian being mostly owned by Nokia. But how often do you see a company splitting up? Well, by 2009 the complete split up of Motorola as a phone company and as a wireless hardware manufacturer will take place.
Does Motorola make great phones? Yes they do. But […]

Consumer watch: The “wireless landline” provider debate

Back here we have three major telcos (Globe, SMART, SUN) on GSM and one that runs on a CDMA network. The latter, called Bayan Telecommunications dominates the “wireless landline” market by releasing CDMA based landlines without wires made by HUAWEI and some cellphones that also run on CDMA.

Samsung SGH B100: El cheapo with no features-o

The Samsung SGH B100 is a very basic entry level phone. It foregoes the traditional features of a camera or a music player or even 3G, and gives you JUST the phone with WAP and JAVA capabilities. I’m not too sure if phones like these should still be made. The price point for the cheapest […]

Nokia licenses S60 to Samsung

Of all the mobile phone platforms available in the market, none is as community driven as Symbian. In fact, the S60 operating system, highly attributed to Nokia, has been licensed out a couple of times in the past. It goes as early as the Siemens SX1 back in 2004. Today, Nokia has licensed the new […]

N-Gage First Access for Nokia N81 and N81 8GB

As i write this post I’m currently downloading the Nokia N-Gage client for the Nseries phone. Nokia has released the preview version of the client for the N81. Similar to how XBOX Live worls, the client allows you to play games, install value added media and track player scores.
If you own a Nokia N81 or […]

Motorola may just leave the mobile phone business

Analysts say that Motorola may be destined to leave the mobile phone market. The last hurrah would be an acquisition from a Chinese company (i.e. how Lenovo moved into IBM) to help fix things. Thing is, the Chinese have no idea what to do to fix Motorola, as reported by Richard Windsor of Nomura. Sad. […]

R.I.P. Cellphone, I knew thee well.

“The leading cause of death among fashion models is falling through street grates.” - Dave Barry
Alas, when the time comes where I will have no more use for my mobile phone, I will bid it farewell and cast it into the bowels of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly in Russia. It’s true!

“The reason we selected […]

Pink iPhone: “…”

Although most likely a promotional gimmick, the pink iPhone concept art looks great. The web site says that there’s really no information yet about the product on AT&T or even with Apple so this is most likely a hack:
The pink iPhone is sure to be scarce for months to come but we’ve got the scoop […]

C228s Bayan “Wireless Landline”

I was sent over a HUAWEI CDMA-based C228s phone, aptly known as the “Bayan wireless landline.” With GSM being the primary network used for mobile phones in Asia, CDMA still has its niche. In the Philippines, the wireless landline concept has become a favorite among vendors and stall owners that don’t have access to a […]
