Travel and the Geekiness

As a cellphone geek who’s been traveling around the neighboring Asian countryside I’ve developed an eccentricity to never put my phone on roaming. Instead I’d always buy a “souvenir” SIM card from each country (Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia) and put it on my open-line phone. […]

The “next cheapest” technology?

Months ago, LG launched the cheapest 3G phone. Last week, Motorola launched the cheapest music phone. We’ve also seen a relatively cheap mobile TV phone as well. For smartphones we have the Palm Centro.
So, any thoughts on the next cheapest technology? I’d personally want the cheapest BlackBerry device with WiFi.

A contest: Name that cellphone!

We’ve had a lot fo sexy names for phones in the past two years - Motorola’s four letter branding of the RAZR, ROKR, RIZR, PEBL, the iconic iPhone. the Treo, the “Chocolate” …. well the list goes on. We’ve also had some really crappy names like the Viewty. But oh well.
I’m giving away three copies […]

First off, Happy Valentines’ Day to my readers. Yeah yeah, I’m not really one to celebrate because of how commercialized it gets. You can obviously tell that part of the commercialization is manifested in the rise of […]

Nokia N96 released

A step up from the Nokia N95, the N96 comes packed with more memory that makes the N95 8GB look half as good. The N96 comes packed with 16GB of internal memory. One of the complaints from the N95 8GB was that the 3.5mm socket was located in an odd place. The new N96 fixes […]

Nokia’s old logo was a fish …

… and Motorola’s was rather funky in script. Neatorama has an interesting find identifying the evolution of tech brand logos. It’s interesting to note that Motorola has always been in the technology industry - radios to be specific. And Nokia had its roots in the manufacturing industry. Nokia still makes its tires I assume from […]

Ode to Neonode N2

Watching the product video and CES preview from Tekzilla, the Neonode N2 is basically a “technical explanation” of the iPhone’s technology.
As a standalone product, the Neonode N2 is a pretty much straightforward device that builds on a small form factor and attractive design. It has microSD expansion up to 32GB and its own “Neno” […]

An Ode to the Accelerometer

Have you ever wondered what makes the iPhone recognize that you’re tilting its screen horizontally or vertically? Or what makes the new Sony Ericsson W760 browse through your music library with a firm shake?

Dead Alive: Resurrecting the iPhone

When Steve announced the new iPhone update a few days ago at Macworld, he left one small detail out. One of the new “features” of the new firmware v1.1.3 is that it does a quick Reanimator and brings bricked iPhones back to life. This is pretty much the same concept behind Nintendo Wii bricking solutions […]
