Buy iPod shuffle, no regrets
It’s been a while since I posted something more on the “mobile” less on the “cellphone.” Today I’m going to post my dissertation on Steve’s iPod line and why its actually a wise choice to invest in this compared to the other iPods.
Back when Apple was still struggling for public acceptance it wouldn’t have really mattered what iPod you bought because first, there was just one iPod and second, digital music players were not the in thing yet. Now you’ve got so much to choose that Steve’s made it easier by discontinuing the black and white iPod models and streamlining everything to the iPod (including the one with video and photo rendering), the iPod nano, and the iPod shuffle.
Now I’m very happy with the iPod shuffle. You know why? It’s because Steve won’t touch it. Every year, a new iPod will come out - they will get smaller, thinner, and have more space. They will be able to do more than play video and view pictures. But nope, not the iPod shuffle. it’s too simple to have all those features. Ya see, that’s the charm.
Here are the reasons why Steve won’t touch the iPod shuffle:
The shuffle doesn’t have a screen therefore it cannot be improved in that way. In fact, the joy of the shuffle is its ease of use. So what if it can’t view pictures, videos or make coffee?
The shuffle’s memory capacity has a threshold. I don’t see why Steve would up its memory to over 1GB. And even if it did, would it make a difference? The shuffle is a flash drive - and 1GB for storing doodad files can make any geek happy. There’s no need for more. Imagine trying to browse 2GB of songs without a screen to help you. Hassle, right? Now imagine using the shuffle for storage past 5GB. Why not just get an external HD then?
The shuffle is a flash drive. Open the cap, stick it in and success! For the other iPods, you need a third conduit which you have to bring around. For some reason, that doesn’t sound very simple….
While so many iPod models are being churned out, I’m sitting back and enjoying the well spent money I shelled out. It’s not that expensive, I get to listen to my music, and I get to back up my small files. The shuffle fits the niche perfectly. (The niche is so small, no other iPods can take its place). The others may look cooler, but they suffer a bigger chance of being replaced by something better sooner.
So now I challenge you, how else can you possible improve on the iPod shuffle? My answer is … add a screen. But see, that defeats the purpose. Gotta love what I got. Heh.
