BlueWhaleMail - Push Email for Non-BlackBerry Users

Wow. Ex-BlackBerry guy develops their own push email service currently available to Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Windows Mobile, Motorola, Sagem, and many other brands (full list at their website). Interesting times, I say. BlueWhaleMail is a push email service that’s free of charge - your network may charge you for data rates of course.
Founder Michael Maguire says:
“BlueWhaleMail doesn’t just allow you to securely send and receive email messages from services such as Yahoo! and Google Mail (doesn’t work with Hotmail), it also notifies you of your friends’ status updates and news items on Facebook, and allows you to send them a message or write on their wall in response. Messages and notifications are displayed as soon as they are received without requiring users to manually connect to their inbox.
“We’re trying to make social networking — messaging, news feeds and status updates — as much a part of mobile life as Text Messaging. People who are unwilling to pay for or use a dedicated mobile email device still deserve a great mobile email service and that’s exactly what BlueWhaleMail offers,” said Richard Seward, founder and CEO of Blue Whale Systems Ltd. “Our service is the simplest choice for those wishing to stay on top of their social life while they’re away from their computer”. You can check out their corporate website for information on how to get set up. I’ll set myself up with one of the Nokia phones I have hanging about — exciting as well since this is a service we’ve all been waiting for. Now push email is no longer phone dependent as BWM can apply itself throughout a wide selection of phones. The skeptic in me though wants to try the service out first before posting raves.
But great job on BlueWhaleMail. This is an app we’ve all been waiting for. Image courtesy of BWM.

Have you tried this yet? I’m curious as to how it works out. . I like the idea of push contacts/push calendar that comes with MobileMe (and I believe blackberry as well).

Stil trying to figure it out actually - haven’t really configured it since I’m leaving the country for a short while and the data plan would skyrocket if I tried it out! :)
