ASUS J208 mobile phone

by Jayvee on August 6th, 2006

j208_asus.jpg
ASUS has been surprising us with phones that are not only deliciously appealing to the eye, but breed a lot of functionality as well. The J208 for instance provides a good mix of multimedia and connectivity options packed in a slider form factor.

On the connectivity side, the J208 comes with Bluetooth, allowing you to connect via Skype to other computers.

On the multimedia side, it comes with a 2.0MP camera, FM radion, MP3 player and video recorder at 15fps. It comes with a miniSD expansion slot with a 64MB card bundled in.

this ASUS J208 is my 9th celphone, so far this is the best (pics, video, mp3,bluetooth, radio…). It has all the features that I need and its price is much cheaper than the my previous one which gave me so much head ache…due to its LCD.

CONGRATULATION TO ASUS for a very fine product!

I bought a unit last week, and it’s by far the best cell phone on the market to date (for a budget geek). Good and definitely rock solid product from ASUS.

I just bought an asus j208. For me this is the best… it is very handy and only few people are using it.. You dont need to be bothered by other cellphone users because if you own this stuff it only means that you are smart! it is very unique! watching full movie is possible in this fon… with this, I can watch my favorite movies directly on my mobile fon…and take note…. not only one movie…. if you have an optional 512mb memory, you can save and watch from four to five full lengh movies without slowing down unlike the nokia ones.. what more if you have 1GB external memory.. I love asus! From PC to cellphone hardwares, asus is still the best! Good luck asus!

    reply to mike…

you could either go to profiles and set it to “meeting”…

    or…

customize any profile, go to alert type, and choose vibrate only…

    hope it helped a lot…

damn… i love this phone… hell of a lot better than my previous 4 nokias and 1 motorola… the j208 is absolutely fabulous… from aesthetics to functionality, to price… congratulations to all who bought one… you’ve just made yourself a notch higher than society… hehehe… kiddin’

just bought ASUS J208 LAST CHRITMAS AND I AM SO DISAPPOINTED WITH IT. THE BATTERY DOES NOT GO BEYOND 24 HRS AND TO THINK IT IS MOSTLY USED FOR SMS! THE DEALER CHANGED THE BATTERY THREE TIMES ALREADY BUT IT NEVER GOT BETTER. THE MANUAL STATES THAT STANDBY POWER IS 200-300 HRS, HOW IS THAT?

  • Jayvee
    Feb 7, 2007 at 8:41 pm

maybe the problem isnt with the battery but with the phone itself? could be a connector issue. have it checked.

i guess i don’t have a choice but submit my unit for check up. i am just disappointed that after buying a very expensive unit i am caused inconvenience of not having a cellphone for sometime. the dealer said it will take a week before result will be known whether to change the unit with a new one or not. imagine, paying for an inconvenience! what a stress!

    I’ve just got one.
Yeah, It’s okay. Very good one. 60Mb internal memory take it easy to store music. Ofcourse,it playing very well. I love it. But… Can it play kinds of music files without MP3, such as Wma, aud, aac,… I cant store them via cable handset.
I havent captured anything yet, but I think it’s good. 2.0MPix is okey.
Another point I disappointed is the keypad. It’s 2 hard. Espescially keys at the bottom. Hard to push.
All at one, this one is so kindly, so manly, and so stably. I’d love it!

Hi can you please send me your pictures taken from your Asus J208.? I’m just excited to see those pictures. I have download my own pictures from Asus j208 on my own computer, but a bit of curiosity I want to see the pictures for comparison. I bought my Asus phone last August 2006 and in December 2006, I bugged down. I could not press anymore the keys. Luckily, I was able to send it for a repair and after two months of waiting, I had it repaired already. But if it would be bugged down again, I could not afford anymore to have another kind of hustle.

I bought my ASUS J208 last February. Is it possible to connect it to a speaker system? I can’t find USB connector that I can connect to a speaker system.

I also have a problem right now when it comes to connectivity. It uses to appear as a removeable disk everytime I connect it to my computer, then I will select from options:
    > Charge only
    > Mass Storage
    > Com Port
But now, everytime I connect it to any PC, only “Charger Connected” info will appear. I’m now having difficulty in transferring files from my PC to my phone. Please help.

But generally, this is a very good phone,it’s cheap and it rocks. I love the features.

The dealer finally agreed to change my phone, but i took the chance they gave me to upgrade it to J501. It’s a very nice cp — i love everything about it, from the looks to functions.

Nilo: My dealer did not ask me to leave the cp. we were able to solve the problem on the same day i confronted them. I got it in an MP3 store in Isetan Mall, Recto.

hi guys, i have a problem with my asus j208’s battery. it only lasts for a day. i wonder if there’s something wrong with this or its just the way it is. Also, can anybody please teach me how to change the shutter sound of the camera? i cannot seem to set it to silent mode. or is there really a silent mode? i even tried putting my phone on silent mode but the camera shutter is still loud. i guess this drains the battery faster too. but anyhow, i still love this unit. its cool and handy though a lil bit heavy.

i had my ASUS J208 last September 2006. The first problem i encountered was on March 2007, the FLEX Cable was already changed since i had a problem with the display and power button. sometime in June 2007 it fell down and the LCD was damaged. the bad thing is that the dealer was not able to get a new LCD for replacement. until last july 15, i finally surrender it to the dealer and hopefully, they will get their way to replace it. besides, it is still in a warranty period. Anyway, the features like pixel, display, mp3, mp4 videos, sound output.. they’re all good. my officemates really admired it and at first they thought it was really expensive.. but it’s not compared to nokia N Series

ASUS J208 IS A LEMON, I REGRET BUYING IT. CHANGED BATTERIES 3X ALREADY, HAD IT REPAIRED RECENTLY FOR GOING BLANK SUDDENLY, AND NOW IT IS AGAIN DUE FOR REPAIR FOR THE SAME DEFECT. TO THINK I JUST ACQUIRED IT LAST CHRISTMAS !

  • George
    Jul 30, 2007 at 10:19 pm

To all guys out there… I will never recommend you to buy ASUS j208. This cellphone really sucks! Aside from the fact that the parts are very rare to find, My ASUS J208 had spent 4 months already in the repair shop since I bought it on August 18 2007. The Graphics All in Stores in Cagayan de Oro City, the dealer of the said cellphone offered it with one year warranty, but everytime it mulfunctions they send the unit to Manila and me the poor customer has to wait for 2 months plus the hustle of follow ups, because the Customer Service in the said store doesn’t know when the unit will be repaired. On the first repair, I received it after two months. Again, it malfunctioned with the same complaint, (I don’t know if they repaired it properly) The said store, sent again the unit to Manila and since June 2 2007, until now I have not yet received the unit. I always call the said dealer, but the customer service department is always busy. They claim they are the best store in town!

Hey guys! I have to warn you about asus J208, I bought it last april 2007 and for 3 months I’ve been using it. Unfortunately just this July the joystick, and menu keypads suddenly does not work! and to add the battery does not go to Full charge! What a shame! To the maker of these ASUS Phones, Please Test your UNITS thoroughly before releasing it to the market- it is for your own good, we costumers put our trust in your products then suddenly these defects shows up in less than 6 months!!!!!!!

guys, i don’t recomend this cp to any buyers out there. it’s just a waste of your hard eaned money. i bought mine last april 11, 2007,,,used it until may 30, 2007 only. the screen suddenly went blank has something to do with the stupid phone’s flex. i brought it to a wellcom branch at SM north,, guess what!? until now (august 16, 2007) it’s not yet with me. it’s a stupid phone! the 2megapixel cam takes photos as if it only has a .3megapixel capability. n6260’s cam is even better! such a f*ck off phone! i hate it!! You’ll end up hating it too!!!
to phoebz: throw that phone away. if you bring it to wellcom it would take years before you can get it back!! my fone’s been with wellcom longer than i was able to use it.

Ive posted all positive comments for this stuff before. but this time its a worst, you know, my J208, the joystick does not functioning. Even the Right and left the soft key..then the worst of all, i cant power on i consult Wellcom at festival mall, they said the Flex cable…duno..is damaged and maybe replace for a new one..Well on my case, i cant imagine na its happend it to me…worst!!!!!!!!!!The repair well take Three to four weeks long..tagal!!!!!its because wellcom festival mall has no stock of flex cable??? and the send my cp to the main branch somewhere in makati….

MY ASUS J208 IS BACK FOR REPAIR ABOUT A MONTH NOW AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE YET FROM WELLCOM. I THINK THEY SHOULD STOP MARKETING THIS PRODUCT , IT IS SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS. WELLCOM SHOULD HAVE THE PROPER TECHNICAL BACKUP TO SERVICE THEIR CUSTOMERS ON TIME. AND THEY SHOULD INFORM CUSTOMERS ON THE LIMITATIONS OF THIS CELLPHONE BEFORE SELLING IT, THEN LET THE BUYER DECIDE.

Nilo i think we have the same problem, i bought my j208 unit last dec at wellcom sta lucia. and during that time it was a blast, but come april this year it had a problem with the flex so the screen was going crazy en ol, so i had it repaired and after 1 month of having no cellphone it was returned to me, then late august of the this year, it went down again on me! so, same story again, brought it to wellcom and i am currently waiting for it to be repaired! whewww! what a hassle! my concern is what if it breaKSdown again after the warranty??!

  • NILO
    Sep 21, 2007 at 5:51 am

charge that to life’s experience. i guess you cannot blame all to wellcom since they are just traders. what is important is, wellcom should be honest enough to explain the limitations of this unit so the choice is ultimately the buyer’s. asus has a reputation so it’s easy to trust it’s products but i think this particular model is experimental, doesn’t everyone agree?

  • Jullian
    Oct 21, 2007 at 8:07 am

I’m not agree NILO. cause asus j208 is a good product and ASUS CAMPANY will not sell this phone for experimental use only. It’s not Like Nokia phones, Asus Product is better than Nokia. i met some rich people from middle east and they were just throwing it, they said Nokia is the cheapest phone among ASUS, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericson.

i have my asus a year ago and i had it fixed only once when its camera did not work. I dropped it so hard so i think it’s the reason why it broke down. Other than that and the letters doubling when texting, i encountered no problem at all.

ehem, i got my asus j08 since it first released, GOT NO COMMENT ON IT DUDE, I am from zamboanga philippines, dude its a slider phone so that means something is always moving and wearing out when you open your phone, i had my phone repaired and changed the card connector from fonetech in makati, and thats it, got my phone working like brand new again. if you are aftering functionality, this is my best bet, if you are aftering something that a nokia phone is offering then dont buy this, this is NOT for noob users - NOT FOR NOOB USERS!!!

aLL i CAN SAY IS THAT, NEVER,NEVER BUY ASUS J2O8. Unless ASUS will come out with a better model, I will not recommend to buy cellphones made by ASUS. They may the best in computers but they are dismally failure in cellphone technology. I look forward to a better ASUS cellphone

Believe you me, those having so good with it now will regret it later. ASUS cellphones are no good! Don’t ever invest on it, as of now.
