Address Book and really long names

by Jayvee on October 16th, 2006

I’ve been thinking. Ever since I started to use the Plaxo sync solution with my desktop and mobile, I’ve been rather “address book happy” trying to fill in all the possible entries I could imagine, including fields such as birthdays, anniversaries, and fax numbers for my non-office contacts.

address-book.jpgWhat I’m a little obsessive compulsive about are the first and last name fields. By practice, I try my best to enter the complete name (first name and last name). In the Philippines, we belong to a culture where we have at least two to three given names apart from our surname. And usually, the surname is of Spanish descent so we can have names like “Jose Ma. Vicente de la Cruz” where the first two words in the name are the “given baptism name” and the third word is the “Confirmation name” (we are predominantly a Catholic country) and “de la Cruz” is your typical uber long Spanish descent name.

Does this pose a problem for our address books? Yes it does! Our names barely fit the screen. Which is why I love huge screens with small character marks.
