3 Million Koreans cannot pay for their phone bill
Talk about the Great Depression - it seems like A WHOLE LOT of Koreans can’t pay for their cellphone bills because of accumulated expenses that were supposed to be liquidated by their employers. How sad, I wish I had all the money in the world to help out these poor people, but alas, the world is imperfect.
Times like these, you gotta love the prepaid phone card subscription model.
The Ministry of Information and Communication said yesterday that the number of mobile phone users who have not paid their bills for two months or longer is now in the millions.
According to the ministry’s data on SK Telecom Co., KTF Co. and LG Telecom Inc., the nation’s three major mobile telecommunication service providers, just over 3 million subscribers have not made payments for their cell phone bills for at least two months. The figure represents nearly 8 percent of the estimated 38 million mobile telecommunication users in Korea.

My God…that’s bizarre, eh?
If I don’t pay my bill in something like 10 minutes after the invoice reaching my house, my phone gets cut off. They’re brutal over here.

two months of unpaid bills … that amounts to around 100 US dollars for average users. for my telco, i give a cap wherein i get warned if i reach that credit limit. wow, 3 million koreans is .. a lot. strange but true.
